Plan pages look much the same from one host to the next, but support varies enormously, and you usually find out how good it is only when your site goes down. The fix is to test it before you pay: send the same technical questions to every host on your shortlist, through more than one channel and at different times, and record how fast, how accurate and how clear each reply is. The whole exercise takes a few days and reveals what no pricing page will.

Step 1: prepare questions you can check

A good test question is technical and specific, and you can verify the answer against the plan page or your own general knowledge. Pick three to five of these, or adapt them to your site:

  • Can I choose my own PHP version and enable the mbstring and intl extensions?
  • Are new databases created in utf8mb4, and how do I convert an older one?
  • If I delete a file by mistake on this plan, how do I get it back, who performs the restore, and how far back do backups go?
  • What happens if I exceed the monthly bandwidth or the storage limit?
  • Does this plan have a setup fee, and is the renewal price different from the first payment?
  • Do you issue an official invoice in a company's name?

Add one deliberately vague question, such as "My site is slow, which plan should I take?". Good support asks what kind of site you run and how much traffic it gets before recommending anything; weak support points you straight to the most expensive plan.

Step 2: send them through different channels at different times

  • Send two questions by WhatsApp or phone, and two by email or ticket if tickets are open to non-customers.
  • Send at least one message in the evening or on the weekend, to see what happens outside office hours.
  • Write in Arabic and include at least one English technical term, to see whether support follows the context and explains it clearly.
  • Note the time you sent each message, the time of the first reply, and the time of the reply that actually answered you.

Step 3: score every reply on the same sheet

CriterionWhat to record
First response timeMinutes or hours
Answered the questionYes / partly / no
AccuracyMatches the plan page?
Clarity in ArabicClear without translating?
Clarifying questionsAsked before advising?
Willing to put it in writingConfirmed in writing?

Give accuracy the most weight. A fast wrong answer is worse than one that arrives an hour later and solves the problem, because it pushes you into a bad decision or a setting that breaks your site. First response time alone can be an auto-reply or a sales greeting, so the number that matters is the time to a real answer.

Red flags that are enough to rule a host out

  • Blanket answers such as "everything is supported" or "unlimited" with no limits or details.
  • An answer that contradicts the plan page, and is not corrected when you point it out.
  • A request for your password or card details over chat.
  • Refusing to confirm an answer in writing, or replying "call us" to every question.
  • Copy-pasted replies unrelated to what you asked, or being passed between people with no one answering.
  • No ticket system or support email at all, only a sales number.
  • Blaming the customer before checking anything.

What is not in the reply but still part of the test

Look at what the company publishes about support itself. Are the contact channels, phone number and email clearly listed? Is there a written acceptable use policy explaining what support covers and what it does not, especially for VPS and dedicated servers, where responsibility for running the server usually passes to the customer? A company that writes down the limits of its support saves you an argument later.

Read the result alongside everything else

Support is one criterion among several. Put its score next to resources, security, total cost and payment, as in our criteria for hosting an audience across Arab countries, and use the hosting buying checklist to cover the rest. Once you have bought, our guide to writing a support request shows how to get problems solved quickly. For the rest of the series, see our Arabic website hosting guide.

Run the test on us

Send the same questions to EngHosting and judge for yourself. Arabic technical support is available by phone and WhatsApp on +201121552051, by email at support@enghosting.com, through support tickets and through the client area, all listed on the contact page. The reply you get is the only measure that counts.
